History of Italy
The location of Italy in the Mediterranean has linked it with ancient trade routes, bringing a long and interesting history to the country. Societies first emerged in 1200 B.C, starting with Greeks and Etruscans, and later with the Roman Empire for more than 400 years.
The Kingdom of Italy was proclaimed in 1861, following the long rule of the Roman Empire and the toppling of Augustus Ceaser. The region began to grow rich in trade and economics but was again left in poverty after the end of World War 1. The Fascist dictator Benito Mussolini ruled up-till the overthrow of Hitler in World War 2 and was captured and executed.
Today, Italy is a thriving country and one of the most popular destinations in the world. Its long and complicated history has made the city what is is today, being a hub for culture, historical sights, and landmarks, and holding rich in tradition. Every location in Italy has a story, making it an ideal destination for explorers and curious wanders.
