Look no further than this blog for tips and tricks to traveling to Las Vegas to not only save you money but many planning-induced headaches!
Travel Days
First things first, you need to plan what days to actually travel to Las Vegas – then request those days off and the whole shebang – but picking which days to travel may be crucial to saving a few bucks AND having a good time.
Most people do not stay in Vegas long, it is usually a weekend trip destination, fly in Friday and head out on Sunday with your winnings and probably a hangover. However, the airlines know you don’t want to take off extra days for your trip and will charge a lot more for Friday to Sunday flights than just about any other flight. Doing a few days during the week will help keep flight costs and even hotel costs down so you can spend more on shows and the slots!
Each airline and airport is going to have different low and high days for traveling – some Tuesday and some Wednesday – but if you do a little search on Google Flights and put in your destination airport and click on the calendar, it will show you an approximate estimate for which days will be lower.
Plus, with less people flying in, your club lines decrease and chances of getting a spot at the MGM Grand pool greatly increase!
If you needed another reason to travel during the week, take a quick peek at weekday versus weekend prices for most hotels and you’ll know why this is our top tip to traveling to Las Vegas!
Stay on the Strip
This one might be a controversial tip but staying on the Strip is actually cheaper than staying off Las Vegas Boulevard.
Why? Because the hotels on the Strip’s only goal is to fill their rooms to capacity every single day of the week. Now that there are so many hotels to choose from, they are lowering prices of rooms to compete with other hotels to help get you onto their casino floor instead of their rivals.
Most of the Vegas hotels have a range of rooms from the basic hotel room with a bed and mini fridge to villa style with soaker tubs, exquisite beds, and full kitchens. And all have deals throughout the week.
Bonus Vegas hotel tip: Watch out for resort fees. In the past five years, more and more hotels have been incorporating resort fees to the point that it is rare you find one without the fee. Resort fees are effectively another service fee but covers WiFi, fitness center, concierge, and more under the fee. They can range in price from a few dollars a night to $50 a night, either way they stack up depending on the days you stay.
What many don’t know, is that many hotels are sympathetic if you check in later in the day. If you take a late flight after work or just decide to check in at 10 p.m. instead of 2 p.m. then you can request to forgo resort fees for the first night. Many will let you, some will not but it is always worth a try!
Use Public Transit
Another great reason to stay on the Strip is so you can use public transport, mainly the Las Vegas Monorail. The monorail travels along Las Vegas Boulevard from hotel to hotel without any traffic to worry about.
Since the Strip is the main attraction in the city, there is always traffic and traveling a few miles can take serious time – not to mention having to park!
The monorail bypasses all of the traffic, parking passes, and Uber fares! This is the most cost and time efficient way to transverse the city.
Also, with arrivals every few minutes, you will know you always have an option to get you around easily and quickly!
Set Realistic Expectations
This could be a tip for any vacation, but especially in the City of Lights. Vegas is one of those destinations that you have seen portrayed on the big screen since the beginning of time, just remember each trip is what you make of it. It can be as wild and booze filled as Hollywood says it is, or it could be a culinary experience, or a chance to indulge in every type of magic show ever. The possibilities are endless in Las Vegas and no two adventures are alike, so have fun during your trip and make it the trip for you.
Bonus reminder: There are a lot of people in Las Vegas, people love to visit this city, we know we sure do. But it can make club lines, pool queues, and just lines in general long. Don’t let it deter you because you know it has to be good with such long lines, just budget out some time.
